runny stuff

im reading various threads about this so im learning a little and im glad its not just us suffering from the smelly runny stuff from our bracken

we were feeding him the wrong kind of cat food and have switched to a more meat based, no gravy brand, no more milk treats and more biscuits

he does not get any of our food, ive put a stop to that following continous runny stuff but my partner has given him a couple of spicy treats which have had no detremental effect at all, which is weird, im still concerned though

but

what really is best for a kitten of nearly four months ?

i cant find a meat based food without jelly or gravy, there isnt really much on the market for kittens anyway, is it not about changing his diet at all but maybe something is upsetting him, would it be better for the vet to help us ?

Re: runny stuff

You could try Almo Nature or Applaws (Kitten) Chicken or go back to basics. Try him for a day or two on either cooked white fish or cooked chicken/rice and then gradually introduce a good quality kitten food - perhaps stick to the same brand for a few days before introducing another brand - try to identify which particular brand/food is upsetting his system.

It would perhaps be wise to take your kitten to the vet for the once over and their advice.

Re: runny stuff

Bozita pate is meat based and is meant to be good for kittens and cats of all ages. Zooplus has some nice foods on it. It's good to keep a varied diet, I would suggest trying a few different foods. Mix it up a bit. But be aware the first few weeks of the varied diet you might have the odd runs here and there. If it persists more than a couple of days you should speak to your vets about a sensitive diet.

Re: runny stuff

kitten hi life pouches are very good, 60% chicken, and no jelly or gravy.

I wouldn't mess his diet around too much actually, I would choose a good quality food, with a single source of protein and stick to it for a while until you see if it makes a difference. Any change of diet can upset a kitten's tum, so sticking to one food for a couple of weeks might help.

It wouldn't hurt him to just have cooked chicken for 24 hrs to see if that helps his tum settle.

If you get no joy, you need to go to the vet in case there is some underlying problem going on causing the runs.

Re: runny stuff

Hi There, My cat was exactly the same from the minute I had her, and she is now 10 months old and she continues to have the odd episode of it still. Initially I kept taking her to the vets who said it was worms-even though she has always been treated regularly. When she was younger the vet advised giving her scrambled egg (without milk), and that always seemed to help and she loved it-she would never eat chicken! Nowadays if she gets it it never seems to affect her in any other way so I continue to feed her her regular food. I have been told it is something she may always have and as long as she is well in herself then I shouldn't worry about it.x
