why is cat constantly rolling?

am interested to interpret why my neighbours young cat behaves as she does, and wondered what it means?

my neighbours have 2 18 month old cat, brother and sister. They have occasionally popped into our garden and house since they were tiny, the little girl cat is very friendly, the boy is more shy.

With the tortie - she will come up to you and immediately roll on the ground - wether its the grass, the patio or in the kitchen (tiles) or the carpet she rolls over and over whilst purring. Last night I went outside and she nipped into the house and literally rolled over and over on the carpet, then into the kitchen and the same. She seems reasonably relaxed, so we wondered if it was submission?, play? is she asking for something or is this just how some cats show affection? she is well fed and looked after so am sure its nothing negative but wondered if your cats do this and what it might mean?

as we are getting our cats soon have purposely not let these little ones come inside since new carpets etc cos I didnt want our new ones to come into new home and find the scent of another cat, but she always does this whenever we see her?

thanks for any thoughts!

Re: why is cat constantly rolling?

my cat does this sometimes....i take it to mean contentment and showing off. he seems to do it when he's laying on something comfortable and saying look at me, stroke me please....love me.

Re: why is cat constantly rolling?

My cat often does this! I think its as already been said, when they are content and want some attention , plus maybe they are marking their territory with their scent
