Re: Cat wanting to be outside CONSTANTLY! Help!

HI,

I have had the same problem with 2 of my toms both neutered too...i found out that they were being fed by the neighbours. Does he have a collar on? not that that would stop some people feeding your cat.

I would keep an eye on him, i noticed the pattern with my second tom and knew what was coming but i simply couldnt keep him in as he didnt like to use the litter tray....it really does sound like the same pattern to me especially since you have said he used to be fine in the house and now suddenly he is wanting to be out.

Hope everything works out with your cat

Re: Cat wanting to be outside CONSTANTLY! Help!

Thanks again for all your answers!

I do have reservations about putting a catflap in my shed etc as its encouraging him never to come in and with the way he is, I dont think he would "re-learn" to come in.

The bringing the outside inside is a good idea but I know Bobbin is friends with a local kitten so thats another reason he likes to go out. He seems to have more friends than I do lol

Yes, Bobbin does wear a collar and I hope no one is feeding him as one day he may never come back :/ and I dont like the thought of someone else feeding my baby but I will keep an eye on him and maybe seek advice from an animal behaviorist or something.

Thanks all

Re: Cat wanting to be outside CONSTANTLY! Help!

I had a cat who was much the same. I used to close the cat flap from dawn to dusk but he would then perch, most uncomfortably, on the top window in the kitchen, which I kept open a couple of inches. And he was a neutered pedigree who had never lived outside, although he came to me lacking socialization, as his breeder was very disabled.

The attraction was, I think, the 5 cats belonging to a neighbour, which I usually found him sitting with when he was out. He was, alas, killed on the road just before his 3 birthday, but keeping him in would have been cruel. I now have the back garden enclosed.

That's a good idea, have you thought about making your garden cat secure? or building a run?
if you are worried it isn't safe out there this would ease your mind.
runs and enclosing gardens can be expensive.. but if you hunt around for the best deals and bargains it wouldn't be that bad, especially if it made you, and him, happy. He gets to go out, and you know he is safe

My advice would be to simply live with it - he wants to be out, let him be out. Get him microchipped and get a collar so people know he has a home.

I would tend to agree with this - but you have to know in your heart that you can live with it if anything happens to him or he decides to live with someone else.
