New Litter Tray

Hi I have just changed my 13 week old kitten's litter tray. I have got him a cat loo with a flap etc. He has used it fine with the flap off but he wont go near it when flap is on. I have tried placing him in his box several times but not having much luck. Can anyone advise if there is anything else I can do to encourage him? xx

Re: New Litter Tray

i'd just leave the flap off. It doesn't make much difference to the smell I don't think.

I was thinking more of the keeping the litter in the tray scenario. I have black carpets throughout the house and he seems to trail his litter into every room. I thought the flap would minimise what he can " dig" out of his box?

Re: New Litter Tray

My kittens didn't like the flap at first, tried the placing them in it option, that seemed to scare them. I then tried getting the kittens to sit outside the turdis (litter tray) and showed them how the flap worked, push it with my hand a few times. This seemed to work as the next day they didn't have a problem with the flap. Might have just been lucky

Also might help if you can wedge the flap slightly open at first to allow them to see they can get in the turdis

Good luck

Ahh. Sticks to their paws though. I have to hoover litter up everyday but fortunately it doesn't get out of the conservatory.

Mines is just a wee one bedroom flat and the hall carpet is covered in litter by time i get home from work. it drives me nuts hehe. thats the reason i bought the cat loo thinking it would minimise the problem but s'pose mikey is boss and if he wont use it then thats it!! I'll try him a few timesagain showing him how it works. i was tempted to leave it on and see how he goes but then i thought against it as i am out all day and dont want to come home to any wee accidents as he's been great with his litter tray. I've had him over a month now and never had any mishaps (touch wood)!x
