Re: 3 new cats, tips and advice needed!
well we're coming on in leaps and bounds. they are now officially called
Juno - mummy Amber - girl kitten Hunter - boy kitten ![]() Juno is slowly getting braver and coming out to explore for a couple of minutes at a time. Hunter is quite brave now and even lets you stroke him a bit when he's out and about. Amber is still very shy and is the only one who hasn't got the hang of the litter trays. She pooped in the round scratching post again today, this time on the top layer! I wonder if she might be one of those cats who needs privacy to poop so I've put the hood on one of the trays (they've both got them but I figured they'd be best uncovered for now). So let's see how that goes. Juno was apparently trying to show her where to poop last night when I'd gone to bed but to no avail. And she peed (i'm guessing it was her) on the carpet over night too. No biggie, cleaned it up and sprayed some Feliway and put the other scratching post there. So hopefully she'll get it soon enough.... I'm looking forward to letting them explore other rooms, and there's lots to go as I'm very lucky to live in a big house. But I think I won't let them into room 2 until they're totally secure and happy in room 1, as tempting as it is. Plus which it's jam packed of stuff I took out of room 1 to kitten proof it so I need to have a big think. It's lucky I've been off sick from work this week but it also means I haven't got the energy for a major re-arrange! I've ordered them a huge climbing / scratching / house activity thing which will be great. And a radiator bed which will be great as if they lie in it they'll be just next to where we sit on the sofa. I definitely had a bit of a moment with Juno last night and felt myself starting to bond with her. I still miss my old lady loads and cry if I think about her too much. But they're a great distraction, even if my house does look like a permanent bombsite now! More pics to follow... Thanks for the advice guys and any more ideas about getting Amber to use the tray would be great. |

Re: 3 new cats, tips and advice needed!
no, thanks, i'll give it a go. the problem is that when i discreetly follow her around to potentially pick her up and put her in the right place, she gets skittish and doesn't want to go. she's not brave enough to be picked up so just runs away whenever she looks like she's about to go and i try to pick her up and put her in the litter like all the advice says. how does that stuff work?
![]() do we think he's going to be long haired?! |

Re: 3 new cats, tips and advice needed!
i've looked at cat attract litter but can only find v big bags of it, is there any where i could get a trial sample?
we're getting a bit desperate now as she's pooped near but not in the litter tray twice now. we're wondering if it's something to do with hunter being the dominant one and the fact that he's pooped and peed in there and scent marked it as his. having said that, he's just pooping in the other litter tray now so we're going to try having the one she keeps pooping near to as hers and keep him away from it. going to put totally clean stuff in it and hope for the best. any other ideas gratefully received! |

Re: 3 new cats, tips and advice needed!
what type of trays are you using - have you tried a covered one?

Re: 3 new cats, tips and advice needed!
they both had covers but i left them off. i've put them both back on now but without the flaps on. i've also put a book next to each so she can easily get in and out, she's quite small. she's peed again very near let's call it tray 1. hunter just did a big poo in tray 2 so i've totally cleaned tray 1, put fresh pellets in and put a big lasagne dish next to it (!!) with some of the paper towels i used to mop up the wee and some of the wood pellets from the litter tray on top. fingers crossed.
i have got some of that crystal litter stuff which i like but not sure if they would. if she doesn't go for the wood pellets in the lasagne dish, i'll try the crystals. we just realised that we assumed she was litter trained cos the other 2 are but thinking about it, she probably just peed and pood behind the oven at the man's house where she was born, it wasn't exactly the cleanest house ever... so maybe she's never used a litter tray. argh, help! |

Re: 3 new cats, tips and advice needed!
argh! she's just weed in the top level of the scratching post thing again, right under our noses! i'm sure we'll get there eventually, can someone just reassure me that this will resolve in time if we're patient and keep trying different things?! how do you litter train a cat when there's 2 other cats around? do you think maybe she needs her own tray? one thought occurs that they might just be a big too high for her as she's quite tiny. so i'm going to invest in a small tray, clearly the lasagne dish wasn't a success. she's a great climber though, she must be to get to the top of the scratching thing just to go for a tiddle!

Re: 3 new cats, tips and advice needed!
Dont worry about the bag of litter being too big, you will soon get through it with 3 cats! The lady who owns the ebay shop I linked to kindly sent me out one single bag whereas the listing is for 2, just give her a call on the number listed for the shop.
