Cats Habits When Finding a New Spot to Sit

So...

my cat has a habit if I am lying on the sofa of jumping up to lie on me. This is fine. However when she does jump up, she will tread from one foot to the other.
I like to think she is making it comfortable for her but I think she may really be testing to see if it's sturdy or safe for her to lie.

Anyone else know what I am going on about?

It's called kneading

Kittens do it to mum to get milk flowing out

Adult cats do it to us coz we are their mums
