Why did my cat love nintendo candy?

Weird title but that's how it is.
I bought a nintendo related candy ( see picture )

it's just a simple aluminum box with mints inside, and my cat went BANANAS over this, I put it down on the table and he started to stroke himself intensively against it and tried to bite his way into it, then he greedily put his tiny mouth over the shorter side of it, I thought he would break hos yaw he even left tiny bite marks on it, I sure hope he didn't hurt his teeth...
He acted exactly like a cat does around catnip...so I wondered if theres something in this that gives the same effect as catnip or if he just really loved the weak scent of mint? But he didn't payed any attention to the other nerd mints I bought tough

ingredients:
Dextrose, Maltodextrin, Magnesium stearate, Natural and artificial peppermint flavour

Re: Why did my cat love nintendo candy?

As far as I rememember (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong), Peppermint & Catnip are both members of the same family of plants - so maybe the fact the Nintendo mints use "Natural and artificial peppermint flavour" was enough to cause the attraction.
