Unhappy Please help me! I don't know what to do :(

My 3 month old kitten is having problems with her peeing. It has now been the third time that she pee'd on my bed. She has been sleeping in my room ever since we got her 1 week ago. Within a day she pee'd on my bed. I guessed it was to mark her territory or because of stress because she did it while I was out of my room.

The second time I was sitting on the bed and she did it while I wasn't looking. She just squatted and pee'd. The third time was this morning when I woke up with a pee stain half a metre away from where I was sleeping.

It doesn't make a lot of sense, she only does it on my bed, not the carpet or any other spot. She is litter box trained, and will pee in there most of the time. She also always poos in the litter box. So why is it that if she is litter box trained, she sometimes pees on my bed?

I read online that cats don't like to pee or poo where their food is, so I put her food and water bowl on the bed, which seemed to stop her from peeing for the first couple of days, until she peed on my bed today.

Her litter box is always clean, I remove any soiled bits and replace them with fresh litter. It is also in a spot where it is hardly visible, and seeing she is in my room she has a lot of privacy.

It doesn't really make sense, she knows how to use the litter box so why would she pee in my bed and how can I stop this? It's almost at the point where I'm going to have to keep her in the bathroom most of the time and keep that as her safe room instead of my bedroom. She does have cat flu and is in the process of recovery but I dont think that is the problem as her first accident happened well before she showed any symptoms.

Please help me, I'm running out of options.

Re: Please help me! I don't know what to do :(

Earl got into a really bad habit of weeing on beds when he was a kitten too, the only way we broke the habit was to keep him out the room. Sorry I don't have any other advice but that was the only thing that actually worked for us.

i agree the only way you are going to break of the habit is by keeping her out of the bedroom.
if you have a warm room where she can be with her litter tray food and water, preferably where it is easy to clean.
its the only way. maybe when she is a little older you can gradually allow her back into your bedroom, but not yet.
when one of my kittens accidentally weed on my bed i sprayed it with feliway spray, after cleaning the spot thoroughly.

We had the same problem with one of our kitties - Basil. But he was having accidents elsewhere in the house as well, think we've worked out that we needed more litter trays and needed to change the type of litter to clumping as nothing has happened for about a week.

We're keeping the kitties out our bedroom at the moment - just until there's been a prolonged amount of time where there have been no accidents, then we'll gradually let them back in and supervise them very closely!

This may be a UTI so I would take her to the vets to have this checked.

Both my cats have had UTI's at some stage. One occurrene was very mild & was only noted when one of them weed on the bed once, other instances were more obvious.

Re: Please help me! I don't know what to do :(

I agree it may be better to keep her out of the bedroom for a while.

The other thing to be aware of is that urine contains ammonia, and normal cleaning/washing does not always remove the smell from a cat or dogs nose (some proprierty cleaners also contain ammonia so can almost attract them back to the same palce).
As long as its not a precious quilt cover i would suggest washing it in biological powder as this breaks down ammonia (it can also fade colours though hence the warning). Also did it go through to the quilt? May be that needs a wash to.

This is no way saying anything about you cleaning, just that cats/dogs smell the world differant to us.
