i got another cat and omg im on the edge of my seet as hes meetin buffy

ok so 2nite i got another cat the lady i got him off was old and cudnt cope with him anymore as she wasnt well and ive bought him home as i cudnt slowly introduce them. she wanted him gone soon.
Ive let him out his cat basket and buffy is not to keen on him. My mother in law said shes just sayin im boss im the top cat kinda thing. Hes used to other cats which is good as he is twice the size of buffy an hes 12 months old. Buffy is giving him the hisses and low growls and every now and then giving him the paw. She has calmed down the hissing a little but hes still getting some. She is following him everywhere and he is just walking away and not reacting to her which im pleased about as i dont want a cat fight. Their food bowls and litter trays are seperate and when i go out in the day i will seperate them untill i know they are defo ok. I have been told she is just letting him know she is the boss and she is the dominant one and give them some time and they will get on. I was told not to worry that he is runnig away and not reacting and shes bein a little mare but if he started fighting back and hurt her then is the time to worry and it wont work.
Any tips anyone i want this to work cause i dont want to have made a mistake with this. I know though that their intro has been a little rushed but the lady didnt give me much time

Congratulations on your new addition to the family!

You're right though - the introduction has been rushed. How about starting again, separating them and doing a more gradual introduction?

As Kat1703 has said, this is a rushed intro. If i were you I would seperate them, put the new cat into a safe room and let him settle with a litter tray and his food and water..I have posted a link which explains much better than I can just how to do an intro slowly Living Together - Introducing a New Cat. Is this new cat neutered and are his vaccinations up to date.

Re: i got another cat and omg im on the edge of my seet as hes meetin buffy

well ive gave them seperate rooms. buffys room has always been the bathroom so ive kept that as hers and his room is the kitchen. Ive put their food bowls, beds and litter trays seperate. Also i am going to seperate them at night giving buffy the run of the house still and putting him in the kitchen it will give him time to settle in and maybe make her feel shes still number one. Ive been told when i feed them to feed buffy first it will make her feel not pushed out. They seem to be settleing a bit buffy is easing up from him and coming off with me every now and then so when i am here i am going to slowly introduce them but im not going to leave them out alone together when im not here. Im gettin some new toys also as i dont want her thinking he is taking all he things as well as moving into her home so everything they have will be seperate and their own untill they decide to share. She does seem a little inquizitive towards him but stil a little hesitant. She keeps coming to me for some fuss like shes saying im tryin mummy and i stil love you even tho u brought him into my house. Im hoping by them bein seperate at night and in the day when im not here will help.

Has your female been vaccinated, also remember that although neutered males are still fertile for a few weeks after,so your female could be at risk if she is not neutered .,

Re: i got another cat and omg im on the edge of my seet as hes meetin buffy

i didnt no that well hes bein dun this week and ill sort getin her dun nxt week ive just been reading that article that was linked to me and it said if one cat with early meetings seeks a safe hiding place then it isnt going to work well my new cat runs away from buffy into other rooms but doesnt hide i think is that a bad sign. Ive now put him in the kitchen to give him and buffy a rest and since hes gone in the ktichen shes actually lettin me touching her again she went very nasty to me and wouldny let me touch her she would go for me and growl at me. I did leave her alone and when she wanted to come to me for fuss i let her but since hes in the kitchen shes come back for nugles so im giving her fuss to let her no its ok

If you follow the link, you will see that the point you referr to is at a later stage in the intro's.Its hardly surprising your new cat is running off,he doesnt know you,his surroundings, the smells everything is alien to him. That is why it is important that he is given a "spare" room of his own,a room that buffy doesnt use on a daily basis, until he feels more settled. The more you try to rush things, the longer they may take, and worse case senario may never work.

Re: i got another cat and omg im on the edge of my seet as hes meetin buffy

well hes got the kitchen as i never let her go in there so thats his room now. Hes settled down in there and shes settled down in the lounge. Ive been in to check on him and hes ok gave him a hug and kiss and let him go to bed. I think both cats are enjoying the peace from each other. Im going to try again tomorrow when i come home from work so he will have most of the day in the kitchen to chill on his own and settle in more. Im going to try and let him roam on his own and put buff in the bathroom every now and then maybe his scent bein around the place will help her get used 2 him a little
