Weird behaviour with our 13 wks
Hi all in a newbie here also I new kitten owner although my wife grew up having cats as pets.
We recently 10 December 2011 got a 8week old blue tabby called Izzy actually getting her was a long story but let's just say it was ment to be . In short we had agreed to buy another cat then 1hr before pick up we where phoned to say she had sold it to someone else. Heartbreak for kids and frantick search through papers for us we phoned a lady who had kittens for sale to be told they had all gone but after the misses had been talking to her for over an hour she asked us to come over . When we got there we met a little bundle of fluff along with 4 other cats and two dogs . The little bundle of fluff wasn't actually for sale because of her size and the lady was going to keep her herself but the fact that Izzy as she is now called wouldn't leave me alone the whole time we where there and the fact the lady and us really hit it off she decided to let Izzy come home with us.And half the pets at home shop ..lol( one very spoilt kitten)She has been great since the minute she came here not cried once first night explored all the rooms and when it was bed time happily fell asleep on our bed. The last couple of weeks though it's like she's possesed . The other day she bit our 8yr old daughters hair of all things and then scratched her my daughter was just sat playing her dsi when the cat jumped up and did this. She sometimes runs round the house like a looney and if you try going near her she doesn't like it . And sometimes I'll go to pick her up and she will bite me and claw at me drawing blood. She does this to anybody that goes near her sometimes and its not like she gives you any sign to what type of mood she's in. Sometimes you can pick her up sometimes not. Last week she made a right mess of my friends hand after he was playing with her and a toy and then after a bit she just pounced on his hand and shredded it.It's very weird because like now she's very happily curled up on my knee purring while I type away giving her the odd stroke..lol See that's what happens its like the kids you start to moan about them and then they do something that turns you into a big softy and you forgive anything they have done..lol I was wondering if it's just her rough playing and she just doesn't know that shes hurting us. The wife says her cats used to run around when it was bad weather but I'm not sure on that one. Another thing when she goes to the toilet for a poo she meows the lady we got her off said she has done this from the start she only does it when having a poo. The wife is worried that she is in pain but she must go four times aday so it's not like she's scarred of it and as far as I can tell it doesn't look like constipated poo. Although how you could go four times a day and be constipated is beyond me ..lol Well I've rambled on for ages sorry. All advice welcome. Hoppy. |

Re: Weird behaviour with our 13 wks
I'm sure someone will offer a bit more in depth advise than i can but that sounds fairly normal to me.
My kitten (5 months) behaves similar to this. She also runs around like mad sometimes, i think she's just burning off some energy and as for the biting mine does this too. Just like yours it's not all the time, most of the time she is lovely but sometimes when she plays she seems to get too excited and bites, i don't think she realises it can hurt. As for biting the hair, she has also done this to me, and worse still biting my ear on one occasion lol. I don't know if i'm right but i think it's just part of being a kitten and playing. I do hope she grows out of the biting though! One thing i make sure i do when she bites me is get up and walk away so she knows i'm not happy. By not giving her any extra attention after it i hope she will realise to get my attention and to get me to play with her she must not bite. |

Re: Weird behaviour with our 13 wks
Welcome to the forum to start with
![]() Firstly Izzy sounds like a very normal kitten. However leaving home at 8 weeks of age was not a good idea. During the extra four or five weeks that a kitten should be with its mother and siblings, leaving home at 12 - 13 weeks, it will learn a great deal about socialisation and what is acceptable behaviour. A kitten that bites or scratches its mother or siblings too hard is soon taught better manners. The movement of your daughter's hands as she played on the dsi would seem like a chase and catch game to Izzy - try playing some games with her with a wand or fishing rod type toy or a lazer pen. If she likes to pounce when she is being stroked watch for signs, like a twitching tail and put her down straight away - keep a small toy nearby and try throwing that for her to chase rather than attacking your hand. The meow when she goes to the loo is quite normal - some cats, like some children, just like to let you know If her poo is normal there is no need to worry.Running around like a looney is very normal too whatever the weather but some cats do react like that before storms. I have two adult Siamese and they still chase each other around the house like things possessed ![]() Hope things settle down with Izzy and we'd love to see some pictures of her ![]()

Re: Weird behaviour with our 13 wks
Hi thanks for the replys . I have to admit to getting the dates wrong after I had posted. I told the wife and she told me that Izzy was 10 weeks old when we got her and not 8 which led to her gleefully telling me that I always forget the kids d.o.b aswel so she didn't expect me to remember Izzys
![]() She has loads of toys in fact to much we moved some away so in a few weeks hopefully she will think there new ones and play with them.she loves her willow wand thing and this spinning lights spaceship thing she has. But mostly she loves playing with a mini football . She has skills aswell I will have to post a video some time she does little one twos then hits it it really funny to watch. I'm just glad it's normal behaviour like I said I'm new to cats and the misses carnt remember to much of when her cats where little as she was only young herself at the time. Happy to hear that the meowing when pooing is normal aswell. I thought she was ok as if it was hurting she would be reluctant to go and she quite clearly isn't . There should be some pictures in the gallery I added some ill try posting some in a bit the iPad doesn't lend itself to posting pictures in forums without messing around with photobucket or other 3rd party apps. Thanks again.hoppy Just tried carnt post from gallery with iPad or at least I carnt work it out . Either way there's some in the gallery if you want to have a look at Izzy.
