littleblackcat is on a distinguished road
why is my kitten petrified of my mother in laws dogs but not mine??

hey all my mum brings my dog over every now and then as i cant have her with me as my flat is no dogs so i have to make due with visits and every time she comes over buffy loves it. My dog can go up to buffy sniff her and give her a gentle paw and she doesnt run off or get threatened or scared at all she just plays back. They get on brilliant and play so nicely together and even curl up together n go sleep. Since the 1st day buffy met her she was fine with her. But 2day my bf bought his mothers dog over for a little bit and the way buffy was wa soo shocking. She wouldnt let the dog near her she hunched up and was showing her hackles. she climbed to the highest thing away from her she could and was fixed on her. If she got down and the dog went near her she ran away and hid. The dog is a small dog like my dog and fine with cats, shes not hyper she just has a sniff round and settles down. I have no idea why buffy acted like that my dog comes over alot so i thought she would be used to dogs. I introduced her to my dog as soon as i had her and she has met a few other dogs to and seemed fine with them but any of my mother in laws dogs she acts like she did today. My dog is a collie cross spaniel and the other dog was a staffy if maybe that kinda breed makes any diff to her behavour. I told my bf i dont want that dog here again if buffys going to get scared but i would like her to become ok with her i just dont understand why she doesnt???

I think maybe they just need more time...

My cats are fine with my dogs now they know them, but responded differently to each dog, in the same way that my dogs treat other cats differently to the ones they know too...

Maybe the second dog isn't so used to cats, and behaved differently, my cats don't like the dogs if they are excited...

If you want it to work, it will, but it will just need lots of time and careful introductions.
