Wink Why do some cats love water?

A very good question! I have 2 gorgeous boys who both love running water!!

Jumpy loves to come into the bathroom when I'm on the loo... ...and get in the sink or the bath and play with running water, including the kitchen tap as well. He is fascinated by the sound of the loo flushing (and I have to close the lid quickly so he doesn't climb in!!!) Treacle is the same (although has now learned he's not really allowed in the bathroom!!) Luckily, they already have a water fountain, and as well as drinking from it, they often love to play with it and dabble their paws in the water...

Just wondered what causes them to do this? I know it's probably in their genes (as my previous cats never did these things!), but is it because their ancestors liked to catch fish, perhaps?

Re: Why do some cats love water?

Why do cats do anything?

Odin loves being on the bathroom sink with the tap running, and even Oslo does it sometimes. That being said, Odin will tolerate a bath, but Oslo absolutely hates it.

Both seem to like playing in their water bowl too - at least it only seems to get used either for paddling in, or dumping toys in. I'm hoping to get them a fountain to encourage them to drink more (or failing that give them something else to play with).
