My little Kimi (16 months but i think she's younger) is an ex RSPCA cat both chipped and spayed.
On Christmas day i get back from my parents, Kimi does her normal hello (brushes up against everything except me) and then promptly pees directly in front of the litter tray (which she has used fine since i got her 6 months ago). I get annoyed for about 30 seconds then go hunting for the clean up gear. I watch her and about two hours later she does it again. Now that then puts other things in place - licking of her parts, smaller and more pee's inside the litter tray and being noisy (but not when she is going to the toilet). I have a quick browse Cystitis i think! But she's not in pain when she goes, she eats Grau (with water mixed in) and she's the normal bundle of chaos otherwise. ![]() So on boxing day (after using the litter tray after that) she stays upstairs next to the bed leg for most of the day. I periodically check on her and shes either asleep or rolling on her back. I check on her before bed and she rolls about letting me stroke her stomach (normally that involves my hand being shredded) and then she's rubbing her head against me like a normal cat would. I think this is very strange then she presents herself to me! Two and two rapidly make four - massive change in behavior - she's in season!? But how? She has been spayed. So i check all the behavioral traits for being in season and they match up with her behavior for both Cystitis and being on heat. She has continued to be very affectionate, pee outside the litter tray (once) and present herself so i am inclined to think she is on heat. Now the vet will tell me whats going on when i get the next available appointment when i ring up tomorrow - but i'm a bit impatient (and a tad concerned about her health) and as i have never owned a cat before I'm looking for anything that i can do to help her in this situation. Now when i registered her with the vet he asked if she had had any kittens (as her mammary glands had started to develop) so it's not her first heat but i would have thought that she would have been in heat earlier as i have had her for six months (she had just been spayed when i picked her at the local RSPCA). So if you have stayed with me on this (sorry long i know ) is their any advice about how to behave with a cat that may have cystitis but is definitely on heat ?Cheers Adrian

Re: A confusing Christmas Story
If it is Cystitis then she needs to go to the vets this afternoon/evening phone your normal vet as they have to provide out of hours covers as cats mask pain very well and cystitis hurts and needs to get treated asap in my mind.

Re: A confusing Christmas Story
Well the vet was rather inconclusive. Didn't really say it was definitely cystitis or definitely she was on heat (she didn't present herself which they normally do it seems). He gave me a mild anti inflammatory for her (£21
) just in case it was a mild case of cystitis and said to monitor her behaviour. She is still acting like she is on heat but as far as I know no more mishaps with the toilet. I will just have to see if it happens again in a months time. Now I have to calm down as it was my first trip to the vets with her being unwell and I'm not too sure who was more distressed, me or Kimi!

Well a month didn't last - Kimi is on heat again
![]() Now after finding out that the mild inflammatory that cost £21 can be purchased for £7 online, i'd like some help please? I'd like a rough idea about the cost of blood tests to see if she is really on heat (and if it's a danger to her) and how much it would cost to get her spayed properly? Any help would be appreciated as i wasn't really impressed with the vet on my last visit. Thanks in advance Adrian

Re: A confusing Christmas Story
. I dont know if this is any help but i had my female cat spayed when she was 2 , she is now 11 but every 5/6 months she still carries on as if she is still on heat tarting about outside and even being slutty towards her son the little trollop has continued to do this ever since she was spayed but she always shows affection to me then attacks me for fun! I've never worked her out but thats just how she is!
