Fiesty kitten and medication....help!

Three weeks ago today my partner and I adopted two 4 month old kittens from the local rescue centre. For the last few days the male kitten, Tubbs (an indication of his love for food), has had mucus stools and this morning he vomitted twice.

I made an emergency appointment for him at the vets and was given Metronidazole tablets, Panacur paste and a syringe of Canikur Pro.

For the most part, he is an incredibly placid cat but when I tried to administer the tablets he became a complete monster. We had him wrapped in a towel so that he felt safe and couldn't lash out but he hissed and I got bitten twice - his little teeth really are quite sharp!

Does anybody have any tips they'd like to share before I lose a hand? Is there anything the Metronidazole can be hidden in? When we couldn't get it down him we resorted to hiding it in soft cheese, but the cheese was eaten and the tablet left on the floor (we'd managed to trick our last cat this way with Metronidazole).

For the record, I have been feeding them chicken and rice since I first noticed the mucus and the vet has today given me some Royal Canin Sensitivity Control pouches which they seem quite happy to gobble. Neither of them have any trouble eating or drinking and are still playful. Both are fully vaccinated and weren't due to be wormed etc until January.

Any help would be hugely appreciated.

Re: Fiesty kitten and medication....help!

havent had these meds - but....my tip is ( sounds mean
) when it should be dinner, wait 30 mins/ 1 hr and then only put small amount of food with tablet....hopefully he'll be hungry enough to wolf the lot -pate type foods are good for this

dont give the rest of the food untill tablet is gone
if tablet is left - repeat small amount of food withtablet

we had to do this with my childhood cat for a long time , he figured out getting it over to get more food was easier.........

i did this with my year old, and she didnt seem to notice tablet!
