Hiya

Our new(ish) cat Max keeps on nipping your hand when you're stroking him. He'll be fine for ages but then will randomly give your hand a nice big munch. It's not a hard bite like he's angry, it's more like puppy biting.

Has anyone got any advice to stop him from doing so. He's slowly getting better but it's still to frequent for my liking.

Molly does the same, I think's it's just their way of saying that's enough for now

I find that saying a loud OUCH makes her think twice about it.

My Siamese, who also happens to be called Max, also does this and I have always regarded it as a mark of affection. However, it is irritating so I have always chastised him by sternly saying "No biting" the instant he starts. He certainly knows what that means and he stops immediately. It is very difficult to stop cats doing what they want to do but you can usually teach them to stop naughty behaviour when you tell them off.
