Unhappy How can I try and stop them damaging my curtains?

My two gorgeous boys are adorable but they seem hell bent on destroying my curtains

they have lots of toys but they've decided to fight my curtains

I don't know how best to stop them doing this.

I try clapping loudly and saying no - that doesn't work
I then tried to do that and lift them away and put them on floor - no difference

right now they're out of the room with the door shut as I'm so fed up, I'm full of cold and feel lousy and just don't know what to do for the best

I don't want them to hate me, I adore them but they're going to pull the curtains down soon

any help/advise/words of wisdom?

Re: How can I try and stop them damaging my curtains?

How old are they? When kittens mine took my living and dining room curtains down twice I think. I then reinforced the pole in the living room and no longer have curtains in the dining room (easier that way!) now they are older though they rarely touch the curtains unless one is on the window sill and the other the other side and they bat each other threw it . I just have to shout NO and they leg it!!! Used to me saying No I guess.

So realy can't help, wish I knew the answer. Have you squirted a water pistol at them when they're doing it?

Re: How can I try and stop them damaging my curtains?

Sounds like you are doing the right things but I would also try squirting them with a water spray. Mine hate it and although it doesn't harm them at all, it makes them think twice about doing it!!

Alternatively, is there a way you could maybe lift your curtains up from floor level for a while, just to discourage them a bit and try and break the habit???

I would also try a lemsip and put your feet up for a while - might help your cold!!!

Re: How can I try and stop them damaging my curtains?

they're just over 4 months old and I am really hoping they grow out of this

the curtains aren't on the floor, they stand on the back of the chair and attack them

a water pistol might be the only way to go knowing my luck they'll just like it

when do they calm down again? after aged 2? *sigh*

last night they were utterly perfect - this is clearly making up for lost time

That's kittens for you!!! Just keep persevering and be consistent with them and I am sure they will get bored of it soon. I know another option is to put double sided tape on the area because their paws stick to it and they hate the feeling - might be enough to make them keep clear!

I think most kittens have a thing about curtains! The water pistol usually works though - or you could put up a Christmas tree - give them something new to think about!
