Unhappy kitten mess

i have had my kitten for about 3 weeks, he is 10/11 weeks old, he uses the litter tray, but a couple of times he has been asleep on the back of the couch and suddenly jumps up, pooing all over the bit, jumps on the window sill and finishes his buisness on there, its the only problem i have with him, he uses the tray every other time, so why is he doing this,

Re: kitten mess

I would have thought maybe it's just because he has been asleep and by the time he wakes up it's too late for him to make it to the litter tray. I am just guessing here but i would have thought as he gets older he will probably be able to control this more.

Also what about another litter tray close to the sofa where this is happening, so he knows he can quickly hop down and into the tray if need be.
