Best friend cats fallen out!

Two of my cats Roxy (4) and Baloo (1) up till yesterday were the best of friends, they would wash eachother, sleep together, play together, everything! Ive only had Roxy about 10 weeks but its been at least 6 weeks they have been so friendly. Then yesterday out of nowhere they started fighting, proper hissing, growling, chasing and hair pulled out! Whenever Roxy saw Baloo she would just go for him and he now growls whenever he sees her. I left them apart all night and day while I was at work and then let them back together when I got home, they were completely fine at first then 15mins later she just went for him again. Nothing at the house has changed recently apart from a week and a half ago my other cat had kittens but they are kept in my bedroom and both cats were and still are fine with mum and kittens. Any help of how to resolve this will be much appretiated.

Re: Best friend cats fallen out!

Hi there,
It's a lot quieter in this corner of the forum than over in Nutrition and Cat Chat!

I just posted today a similar problem with my cats - 'Feline Politics, any advice'. Same thing, best of friends for 2 months then this morning serious hostilities, ie, not just play fighting, but loud horrible growling. I can't think what's caused it, but I'm hoping it will just blow over.

Anyway, I'm wondering if it is your new kittens which has caused the falling-out. Even if they are kept in a separate room, your cats can still smell the kittens and this may be upsetting them.

Is it possible to separate them for a while, and give them loads of attention and reassurance. Could you help them spread their scents around the house, by stroking them with a cloth and then wiping the cloth around the house.

Also, a Feliway diffuser can be effective, although it takes about 2 weeks to work.

Hope things settle down for you soon, and all the best with the kittens.
