Introducing a stray kitten to my young dog

I found a kitten on the street. I think she's around 1-2 months old, still very small but very active and no mom. I have a 1 year old dog that seems to be excited about her, but she hisses and growls. He loves all animals, but he's very energetic.

I live in a one room apartment, so they only way to separate them for now is to put her on the enclosed patio/laundry room, which is divided by a sliding glass door. My dog watches her with interest, but she seems to be very aggravated. Where I live (I'm an expat in South Korea) there are lots of stray cats and dogs, many quite aggressive (two friends recently were attacked by strays), so I'm not sure if she fears other animals, even if she is still very young.

The problem is that the kitten cries incessantly to the point of me losing my mind if I keep her in the room because she wants to be with me. She'll curl up on my lap, purr, and fall asleep instantly in the main room. However, my dog, although gentle, likes to nudge her and tap her with his paw, or follow her around obsessively. Locking him in the separate room is the same- he'll just whine. If he's really still, she'll try playing with his tail, or if he's just walking near her she doesn't care. But the minute he tries to touch her she hisses, spits, growls, and sustains a high pitched meow.

So- should I keep enforcing separation, or will they just eventually get used to each other?

Re: Introducing a stray kitten to my young dog

Update: I've just been letting them stay together, and she's stopped hissing. She'll still meow at him if he plays too rough, but she doesn't mind him otherwise (I think some of meowing and batting at him is playing back, because she doesn't bring out her claws, so I'm not worried.) They won't sleep together exactly, but they do sleep about a foot apart now.

My dog continues to love her company, and I think she's warming to him. Although she doesn't yet seek him out the way he follows her. She seems more interested in playing alone with bits of paper and toys (although my dog will destroy her actual toys, so I have to put him in the bathroom so I can play with her)
