Smile Cat & kitten fighting - should I leave alone??

Help!!! My 1 yr old male house cat Pumpkin is asserting himself over my new 4 month old female kitten Poppy which is fine. On occasion he gets aggressive and stands over her, bites her neck and squashes her. She doesn't seem to mind but I've had to step in occasionally. I'm off to work tomorrow and they've only been together 2 days (3 nights). I'm of the let them get on with it mode of thought but I'm not sure leaving them the whole day together unsupervised is a good idea. Should I separate them while I'm out tomorrow although it could mean the kitten is locked in a room for 8 hours alone. I have food etc in there for her but could this make it all worse?? Hello to everyone, by the way

They should not be having ANY physical contact at the moment, The kitten needs a safe room. You cannot often just throw two cats together and expect them to get on.
yes sometimes you can just let them get on with it, but not with the signs you are speaking about, in my opinion.
I would put the kitten in the safe room now with all her things. Let them both get used to the new environment and new smells. Then allow them to have visual contact through a crack in the door, but no physical contact. When they can have visual contact without any aggression, only then would I allow any physical contact.
