Angry Nasty wee smells

Hi, any ideas on how to get rid of wee smells.

Nibbles has recently started to wee in the hall, right next to his litter tray.
Yesterday he did a poo in the litter tray, and then went and did a pee on the carpet. Our hallway now stinks and it's driving me mad. I've tried putting down barcarbonate of soda but this didn't work.

Helllllp!!

Re: Nasty wee smells

firstly you need to move his box and make sure he knows where the new place is, you can put him in it and leave it with the used litter in it, but scoop out the wet and poo. a hall is a high traffic area so he's probably trying to cover all the other smells there. he needs to have a litter tray in a private low traffic area. Secondly you will need to clean the area more than just with bicarb. you have a couple of choices. you can buy a product called Nature's Miracle here: Nature's Miracle Stain and Odour Remover Gallon

and use according to instruction which is to cover area with non diluted solution and let dry completely, no need for carpet cleaning machine.

OR

you can try washing the area with a bio washing powder then with a carpet cleaning machine and then covering the washed area with a white spirit like Gin or Vodka and let it dry.

you may also find he needs a bigger tray or it needs to be cleaned regularly. depending on the cat some are fussy.

Has he been to the vet for a check up ? If this is recently started behaviour and he is still using his tray for poos, it could be he has a low grade urinary infection. It hurts to pee and they associate the pain with the tray so look for somewhere soft to go - cat logic. If it is that it is easily treated and should stop him not using the tray for weeing.

You could also try a litter called Cat Attract, it has a special ingredient guaranteed to make cats want to wee on it R & L Pet Products - cats, breeders, shows, litter, food, and accessories.

R&L also sell Urine Off, thats really good for removing stain and smell from fresh or old urine on carpets or soft furnishings
