Introducing kitten to 2 older pussycats

Hello everyone,
I have just adopted a 13 week old male moggie (Merlin), he has been with us since Friday. I also have a 16 year old female cat (Murray) & an 11 year old male cat (Jasper). Jasper has taken to the kitten quite well, but Murray is hissing & growling at him, & has attacked him. I have purchased a large dog cage, put a litter tray, food & water, toys, a bed and a cat carrier in there, & put the kitten in there, letting him out when Murray is not about. It just upsets me to see Murray like this, and would really like some advice on how best to deal with the situation. Thank you in advance for your help xxx

Re: Introducing kitten to 2 older pussycats

It sounds to me like you are doing everything right! You will just need to give them all time to settle in...it can take a couple of weeks in some cases. Keep doing what you are doing with the crate and just get them used to each other gradually

Thank you fluffycatlover, I have also got a Feliway diffuser in the kitchen, but Murray spends alot of time in our bedroom, should I get one for there too? Is there anything else I can do to help? xxx

Re: Introducing kitten to 2 older pussycats

I have heard that the diffusers can help so I would suggest having a couple dotted about the house to help all of them feel a bit more settled.

I really think it is just a case of being patient with them though and making sure they all get lots of attention. I have had cats where it has taken about 3 weeks for them to stop fighting and hissing with one another whereas others have only taken a day or 2.

I'm sure it will all settle down within a few days

Lou

They are beautiful cats and you sound as if you're doing all the right things to get them to get along with each other. Good luck
