Re: Introducing kitten to 2 older pussycats

Thank you all for the lovely comments. I'm just getting so stressed as I just had Merlin out of the crate to clean out his litter tray & Murray came in to the room, launched at him with her claws out. I only just managed to grab him before she attacked again. Should I be telling her off, or will that just make her worse? Aaaaarghhhhh!!! Stress!!! Just ordered another Feliway diffuser - think I need one too!! xxx

Re: Introducing kitten to 2 older pussycats

Don't tell your cats off - they are only doing what comes naturally to them so it's not like they are being naughty really!!! Mine still attack one another, trying to stay at the top of the cat hierarchy....it is how they would behave in the wild and it is all just normal cat behaviour.

As long as you are there when it happens and can move the little one out of the way, it should be fine!

Try not to worry

Lou

Re: Introducing kitten to 2 older pussycats

Murray is still trying to attack little Merlin and hisses at him still, and can be really nasty. Sometimes I think she's got better as she will walk past his crate and not bother, then like last night she tried to attack him through the crate and mananged to scratch him. I let him out as often as possible, but only when Murray is asleep in the bedroom and have to be quick to get him back into the crate if she gets up. Is there anything else I can try to help? Also, Merlin & Jasper play alot together, but sometimes Merlin will chase him and attack him, Jasper seems to put up with it, but if he gets too much will hiss at him. What can I do to stop Merlin doing this so much? Thank you for all your help so far, I really appreciate it. xxx

Re: Introducing kitten to 2 older pussycats

To everyione who has problems introducing a kitten to older cats, do bear with it, I am pleased to say that we have had a huge turnaround today and Murray has stopped hissing & chasing little Merlin. It's not perfect, but we are on the road to a settled family life........
Thank u to everyone for their help xxx
