What is going on??

Up until the beginning of the summer we had three well trained indoor kittys. But about four months ago one of our toms started spraying (he is neutered from six months) we put this down to a stray cat getting into the garden. Although indoor our cats are allowed into the garden when we are home- its fully enclosed. The stray managed to get in and attacked our poor little female kitty- bad enough she needed a trip to the visit. Our two toms didn’t get involved, (told them off for that- they could of easily taken him on!!)

We have been using mixture of urine off and wash and get off to try and elimate the problems- lots of cat nip, feliaway diffuser and cuddles- but yesterday we got home to find he had climb onto the pc desk and sprayed the monitor!?? Also this morning he peed on one of the cat beds? We still have the litter tray in the same place and haven’t changed the litter.

Also for the past week we have come down each morning to find a cat poo in the middle of the kitchen floor. We weren’t sure who the culprit was at first but now we are thinking its our other tom- he loathes the litter trays and is a def outside kitty for the loo, but the stray got in another night and jumped him mid poo- so that has affected his toilet going.... or has it? Could it be the other cat spraying? And how can we help with this problem?

We have three litter trays in the house, and the spraying tom uses these regularly as does our little female but now the spraying is a problem-what can we do?

Also a few months back our spraying tom started very loud meowing...... he does this when in house lying relaxed or out in garden strolling around. All our cats our CH- could this be an attributing factor?

Also we arent definite and this could be the stray cat coming into the garden- Im five months pregnant and wonder if the pregnancy could be affecting them? Although we havent done any decorating etc yet and no disruption to their routine.....yet.....

But as the baby is on the way we are really wanting to get all kittys back to usual selves and get prepared for baby at the min I feel we are going backwards

All help much appreciated

Re: What is going on??

ooh, thats a toughy!

i know my friends spayed female sprayed when new cat started invading garden
so could well be the new cat - especially if he's a bully

but you're already using proper wash stuff & feliway, is the worst affected tom a hidey hole cat? something simple like new hideout - radiator bed/cat tree/ igloo bed may help a bit - just so he can hide up in own space?

hmm, hope someone more knowledgeable comes along!!!

Re:

Thank you broccoli , I appreciate your comments, encourages me we are on the right lines and helps to talk through ideas!

I did buy a new cat tree for indoors and a new cat kennel for outdoors,

is it possible that the neutering op wasnt quite right and he could need another op? Im just wondering since the spraying happened during season they are mating and before that he was so good....

but he is a very anxious kitty so maybe it didnt take much to trigger it- is there any other helpful tips to help relax a stressy kitty?

Re: What is going on??

you didnt say how old yours are - i think the hormones take up to a month to go totally - may be it? unless older

the friends cat i mentioned is 8yrs - spayed at 6 months , and only this yr with bully cat did she spray ( over cd rack )

i have 2 cats, one has been missing for 2 months - thats why i joined the forum, bought feliway due to people here - had some sucess with it, but was still concerned with remaining cat's behaviour & took her to vet - clean bill of health

stress can cause UTi ( urine infection) its a possible for yours, and can cause wierd toilet behaviour.... but they also have a tablet, cant remember the the name, for stress

i confess CH is new to me ( googled it when read yr post ) if you dont get more answers tomorrow, i'd start new thread called CH cat toilet problems ....in case its slightly linked

There are two types: one is Zylkene(sp?) and the other is Clomicalm. My rather neurotic neutered male is on Clomicalm (2.5 mg per day) and it has stopped the spraying behaviour and I must admit, doesn't seem to have changed his personality negatively either. I don't like having to give him this medication (which is apparently safe in the medium to long term), but it is the lesser of the two evils: the spraying behaviour and anxiety caused huge problems between my OH and myself /kitty. I also use a feliway diffiser permanently.
