What should I do?? Help!!

Ok I had 2 cats that are male and fixed, one of them died and the other spent weeks howling and looking all over for him. At the same time our place flooded so the cats surroundings have all been redone and I know cats do like change much. Mooch is 3 years old. I was put in a position that I had to take in 2 seven week old female kittens. I introduced them slowly and my older cat stopped eating and drinking and anytime the kittens got close he would dry heave. Even if I got to close he would dry heave. This went on for a week but he is now eating but still dry heaves every now and then. He is now cleaning the kittens but pins them down and bites the front of their throat. He has even been caught carrying them into the room by the front of their throat. He is a 14 pound cat and a flame point Siamese and has always been kind of a nervous cat but I'm afraid he is going to kill these kittens. Am I wrong?

how long have you had the kittens? they may need to be in a seperate room for a bit longer. hope someone more experienced comes on soon!

Have you asked the vet about the dry heaving?

Re: What should I do?? Help!!

Yes I took him to the vet and he said it was most likely stress from his brother being gone and the new surroundings and the kittens. He gave him some fluids in his back under his skin and sent him home. Ive had the kittens for about 3 weeks now. The first week and a half they stayed in a tent in my room. They have been here alone with my older cat but I'm worrying because he has been biting the front of their necks alot but he also pins them down and cleans them at the same time so I'm not sure what to make of it. My older cat has always been very babied and has always been an indoor cat. He is giant compared to these little kittens..Like I said he weighs 14 pounds. I don't really have a way to separate them because of my living situation, I don't want them getting hurt.

Re: What should I do?? Help!!

It sounds like he might be trying to play with them and the cleaning indicates he likes them, but then again, toms can kill kittens and I'm no expert by a long shot. If he was biting the backs of their necks, I'd think he was just trying to discipline or carry them or something of the sort. The front--well, cats often play with each other like that and if there's no open hostility, then I'd guess it's okay. Their little necks are so tiny at that age, though--I can understand why you'd worry--plus accidents can happen even with the friendliest of intentions.

Hopefully someone will come along who knows more.

Is there any way you can get a dog crate to keep them in when you can't supervise? That way you'll have peace of mind that they're safe and you can observe your older cat interacting from outside the crate. And it will give them time to grow a little and get sturdier
