Re: Is there a way to keep them off the counters?
don't give them anything on the counters to make it interesting. they will get bored with it eventually. and btw telling them off when they do it could actually be making the situation worse as it's getting your attention. they may be doing it just for that reason if there isn't anything on the counters that they might want. you can get some of these for some pets they work. for my clever ocicat however it did not. she worked out when the spray came out after the beep and ducked! yes ducked and then moved back on the counter out of the sight of the sensor. but she's not your average cat lol doggie solutions

There are some really good ideas from the other posters. This offers a few more:

Re: Is there a way to keep them off the counters?
My cats never seem to jump up on the counters now, when they were younger we would squirt them with water and shout at them to get down when they jumped up on the side or the dining room table.
When we were out we would cover the surfaces in pepper, which they did not like. |

Thank you all for your thoughtful responses. I am going to try a few and see what happens.

![]() I just used to put the cat on the floor and say no very firmly and never used the kitchen counter to put his food dish on. He eats in the consveratory and I always fill his bowl on the windowsill in there. |
