New Cat Help Needed

Hi!

I rescued a 2 year old cat a couple of weeks ago. He seems to sleep the majority of the time, but when he's not sleeping he cries and yowls a lot of the time. I don't know anything about his previous history as he was a stray brought into the vets.

Is this something that will go away with time?

I was wondering if it could be that he's previously been an outdoor cat and i'm keeping him as an indoor cat.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Milly xx

Re: New Cat Help Needed

Well done you for taking him in.

Assuming he is in good health and nothing physically wrong with him he may be a bit bored, especially if he has been an outdoor cat. It may help to provide him with lots of interactive toys - lots of ideas here

Also if you play with him - perhaps with a wand type toy. You could move his food around so he has to find it. Have you got him a decent cat climber - no indoor cat should be without one!

Unhappy Re: New Cat Help Needed

He's got toys to play with. He's been neutered. I've tried ignoring him, i've tried letting him into the bedorom (although I don't want him in there), i've tried feeding him and nothing seems to make a difference.

It's been nearly 2 weeks now and he's still crying anf yowling through the night. He's 2 years old so it's not like he's a new baby.

I feel awful but there's only so long I can go without sleeping and it's starting to make me wonder if I made a mistake in rescuing him.

xx

Re: New Cat Help Needed

Does he settle if you let him in the bedroom? I know your baby is 2, but I assume that any cat going into a new home might be the same?

For the first 2 months we had Molly, nights were very hard work! I dont think there was a single night I, or my OH, didnt have to get up with her. It was as though she was scared to be alone, we didnt really have to do anything, just sit in a different room and talk to her .... I did even sing to her at one stage If I'm really honest, we went through a stage of thinking did we do the right thing getting a kitten.

2 weeks is still only a short time for him to settle in, especially as you dont know his previous history, I knew Molly's history and she was still a pain in the arse

All I can really say is give it time, Molly is now nearly 8 months old and is an angel at night. She knows it's bedtime, she knows she cant play on the bed, she knows we are going to go to sleep!! She will come for a cuddle then go and settle by the bedroom door. Hopefully your little man will learn this is your routine, and will stick to it
