Question Any ideas?

Hey. I have a 15 month old kitten/cat (he's at the in-betweey stage) who likes to sleep in small spaces e.g. boxes, the bathroom sink etc. Basically anything he can get into. I keep him and my other 2 year-old cat as indoor cats as where I live it isn't suitable to let them out. In the past couple of weeks he's started sleeping in the cat litter trays that he and my other cat share. Any ideas why he's doing this and how to stop it? I can't help but think it's not good for him and he's normally really fussy about how things smell. He evens cleans up after the other cat has been to the toilet lol.

Re: Any ideas?

he might grow out of it but i don't see any reason other than it might make him smell that it would be bad for him. as long as you clean the litter regularly. have you tried different types of litter boxes like covered ones? or having multiple boxes in quiet places in the house and maybe using a different type of litter.

Re: Any ideas?

lol bit off topic but go to a cat show and a lot sleep in their litters in their cages!

Seriously though have you considered that he wants to have a hidey hole? Do you have cardboard boxes dotted around?

If you don't, then why not try one or two? Large enough for your cat to get in and hide - you can cut holes in top and sides either big enough for cat to get through them or just to look out of.

Cardboad boxes are actually quite hard to get hold of unless you have internet deliveries. Supermarkets may have them or if you work your business may.

Yeah, we have 2 trays in the flat. We've tried cardboard boxes but he doesn't want to know them now. But am gonna try the box idea.

Re: Any ideas?

My cat used to try and sleep in the litter box i just used to take her out each time.
She also seems to do it when she goes to the cattery
But i have bought my cats a igloo house and they now love to go in that when they feel they want to get away from each other and hide
