little one pined down quite gentle by the adult cats

hi guys
I have a question ...
couple months back we adopted this kitty ( is about a year old now)
the rest of the cats we have r adult , with this kitty we have 4 males and 2 females .
Now the kitty is a lovely boy , of course he has moments of madness like any other cat at his age and not only , but all of our cats had adopted the kitty . No sign of aggression (except one of my females who spanks every one on her way when she is in the mood lol) .
Muffkin ( his official name is nero but damn if he answers to that name) is a teenager now , is in to everything but he is very sociable and very loving with his big brothers and sisters .
Now what we have noticed recent times (not quite recent but past 2 months ) is that some times 2 of our male cats pin's Mukkin down , there is no fight or anything , but if they r quiet and the little monster is in the mood to play with them , he goes to them starts cleaning them to woke them up and then the older cats if they not in the mood for playing they just grab him on the back of his scruff and pin him down , they do not hurt him , they just hold his scruff in there mouth and then they put themselves on top of him and keep him in that position for a minute or so . They never fight and the little one even if he mew;s he dose not struggle to get out ....

all our cats r neutered and this it happens only amongst the male cats .
and non of them r alfa cats , one is the beta if u want to called in that way and the other one is at the bottom of the hierarchy amongst the male cats.
so what is this , is a sign of dominance from the males cats to the little one they put him in his place but in gentle way ?

Re: little one pined down quite gentle by the adult cats

I am by no means a behaviour expert but ,as I have a kitten who had behaviour
issues,I have read a lot of articles on behaviour and I did read somewhere that a mother cat will grab a kitten by the scruff and pin it down if it is behaving in a way that she does not approve of.Whether that relates to your situation I'm not sure.Perhaps someone with more experience on behaviour will be along shortly.

Pecking order is what i think it is.
It's happened in the past to my cats.
I have noticed it is happening now to my young cats. The male Harley is nearly 3 and a young female 8 months old.
They are very close and are always playing and washing each other. They never fight or hiss. So now and again Harley will straddle her and softly grab her by the back of the neck.

Just a cat thing
