Cat trouble...

We have a cat that thinks he's a dog.....

I know you think that's a good thing but its really not.

Since moving here in September Winter has been playing up badly, he is acting more dog like than ever. He is relaxed and everything but its like something in him has changed. He think's he's entitled to not only his food, and the other cats food but all the dogs food and human food. He will scratch you in order to get food from your plate. It's getting to the point were we cant eat a meal without winter trying to stick his head in your food. And if you shut him out he will rip up the carpet.
He has put alot of weight on since we changed his food from whiska's to burgess.

At night he napps on our bed which we dont mind he always has done this since teh day we got him, but now he attacks you while you sleep. It sounds funny but last week he attacked me 3 time's while I slept ranging from scratching my lip to me waking up with him attached to my nose.

The other 2 cats are fine no problems but Winter has gone from being the most easy cat to the most difficult.

They have toys, scratching posts and the works, he spends most of his day chasing the dogs and other cats around the house and looking very pleased with himself.

He has a great bond with the other animals even sleeps with the dogs but his bond with us is becoming strained.

He was neutered around July last year and since then he's been getting more and more strange but the move seems to have let out the new winter.

Little bit of advice would be great.

Re: Cat trouble...

Oh dear It sounds as if the house move has made him unsure of his position in the household and he's trying to be top cat (or dog ) Have you tried Feliway? Other than a pet behaviorist that's all I can think of - sorry

Yes we have. We are debating if we should change his food again as he has put alot of weight on and has changed since being placed on this burgess food.

Re: Cat trouble...

I don't know what the Burgess food is like but it sounds as if he is still hungry. The food is making him put on weight by which you would assume that he is getting enough but the fact that he will steal from the other cat and the dogs makes me think it isn't as satisfying. Cats are great opportunists and will steal food but aren't usually food orientated like dogs. If this behaviour definitely started from the change over of food, go back to Whiskas and see what happens.

Re: Cat trouble...

are they all indoor?

sounds like with the move plus a new dog he is a bit lost, id try feliway and new cat posts that he can mark as 'his' so he knows whats what, cans dont like change at the best of time, he has alot to compete with with all your dogs and catlets!

Re: Cat trouble...

I think everyones given you really good advice. If he doesn't settle you could pop him to the vets just to make sure he's not got anything irritating him. Is he fully wormed? That can increase hunger but as he's putting weight on it's probably not likely.

Let us know how he gets on

He's been like this since September long before we got the pup.
Ordered some new cat posts and buying some more feliway next week.
