Exclamation Why does she wee by doors???help !!

Hi
Hope someone can help!
My cat is 2yrs old.
She has the run of the house , a microchip cat flap which gives
Her access to the outside when ever she wants to go out.
But has this very bad habit of weeing infront of my French doors
And back door , Inside the house !
I just don't understand why she does this as she can freely
Go outside to wee when she needs too !!!
I have tried the feliway spray but hasn't made. Difference !
So I now have a very stained and smelly carpet !!
Any advise ?
Thanks in advance xx
Ps she does go outside to wee In the garden too !

Re: Why does she wee by doors???help !!

Hi welcome to the forum. As I have indoor cats , I dont have this problem. All I can suggest is that you give your cat a litter tray, preferably at the place she is peeing. She may be feeling threatened outside when she goes to pee.It is also advisable to have her checked over by a vet for a UTI.this could cause inappropriate toileting.

I don't know if it's the same with cats but with dogs if they smell urine they're more likely to go back and pee in the same spot. You said that bit smells of urine might be why. You can get biological cleaner simple solution for example that would get rid of the smell.

I agree, my first thought also was, why not just give her a litter box, it's better any way to know what is normal for a cat's bathroom habits, often a change in litter box habit is the first indication of an illness

Also do have her checked out by the vet, she may have a urinary tract infection and this is the only way she knows how to let you know that she is sick. UITs hurt.

Yes it is the same with cats all soiled areas will need to be cleaned with an enzymatic cleaner, regular cleaners don't work, she will still be able to smell it.

Enzymatic means "breaks down bacteria", eliminating the cause of residual odor.

Thank you for your replys , but she does have
A litter tray too which is regular cleaned and I have spent
A fortune on pet cleaning products for this problem !

Think I will take her to vet to get her checked out
.
Thank you again x

Re: Why does she wee by doors???help !!

after the vet - if she gets the all clear, what does she weeon by the door is it carpet or wood floor or tiles?

make sure that its throughly clean, bleach has a certain amonia (spelling) and it actually attracts cats to that spot!

after its clean, she might actually be doing it to mark her house, when did she start doing it? a new cat might be in the neighbourhood and shes warning it off, it could have sprayed outside that part of your house without you knowing so clean out there to.

you could also put her litter tray in that actualy spot, she might find that its cosy for her to wee.

also is she neutered?

The cat marks the border of the house. Clean and clean and clean - all I can suggest.

Re: Why does she wee by doors???help !!

the reason why she wees by the doors is because she is probably having trouble with a predator, probably another cat coming in her garden and she's not happy
