Kitten behaviour changes

Hi all,
I am new here.
I am a vet nurse who rescued a kitten a few months ago. The kitten was about 5 months when I got him and he had a broken leg which required surgery and confinement to a small area for 2+ months. Hes been well looked after and is an inside cat. I have named him Anubis as I adore Egyptian mythology.

The reason I am writing is that Anubis used to be very cuddly and smoochy before his confinement. I wasn't able to cuddle him and give him as much attention while he was in confinement but he still enjoyed it when I did.
It's been a couple of months since he's been able to roam freely about the house, but his behaviour has changed. He doesn't like cuddles anymore, and won't tolerate me petting him for very long. He seems to enjoy the pets at first, purring, closing his eyes and stretching out his neck to be petted but then he stops enjoying it (tail flicking, ears going back) and walks/runs away.
I used to love how cuddly he was and I miss the affection he used to give.

Has he stopped because he was confined for so long or was he only cuddly because he was hurt? Is there any way I can make him affectionate again? I was hoping he'd go back to being cuddly but he hasn't. Is it a phaze he's going though?

Any help on what I can do to get him to be more cuddly again would be great. I know he is a healthy kitty as my boss (a vet, of course) has checked him out several times recently.

Thank you.

Re: Kitten behaviour changes

Unfortunately some cats do grow out of being cuddly and only want that sort of affection on their own terms. You don't say if he is neutered but i assume so. If not he may return to being cuddly once he has been done.

Re: Kitten behaviour changes

Does he associate you with the treatment that he had?Assuming he was at home and you would be his main carer?Could possibly be a trust issue and it may take a while for you to build that back up.

Yes, he was neutered the day I got him. In fact I was surgical nurse for the procedure, haha

Hmm, I was thinking that it may be trust, but he is like that with everyone and not just me. He used to cuddle just about anybody too.
He is so so playful now, and almost always running around causing mischief. He's definitely not scared of people, he'll rub up against you when you're getting his food and he'll play with you. He just won't cuddle anymore :/

Any more advice would be appreciate!
