Re: Do your cats know/ respond to commands?

All of mine respond to their names and all but the kitten respond to 'No', but she's oblivious to it

The oldest three also respond to Up, as that's what I say when I want them to clear out of a room they shouldn't be in, or if they've decided to settle on a coat, chair, or generally any surface/person they shouldn't be on

The eldest three also sit for treats, with no command now - whereas Midge just flings herself at your hand and tries devouring anything she can get her teeth around!

I manage to teat the kitten 'take gently' when having treats, the bengals nearly rip off your fingers!

Re: Do your cats know/ respond to commands?

I wish Sweetie liked treats because it would be a useful training tool. I've tried loads of different kinds but she just snubs them all - what do you use that the bengals like? Or maybe it's just your fingers ?

Re: Do your cats know/ respond to commands?

"Oi!!!!" means "no"

"Brush", then Nunu moves straight to his "grooming mat"

"Sleepzezz means time for bed and we all troop off to the bedroom

"cookie" or "sweets" means "treats"

"Nom-noms" = dinnertime

LOL, Basil hooks me with his claws & drags my hand (with the treat in it) to his mouth if I try to gently feed him one

They are so badly behaved at times - I'd never let the dogs get away with acting the way the cats do.

Rio doesn't really like treats either - the only one he does like - which he LOVES are dreamies - you can get them in chicken, cheese & salmon flavours & they stock them in any supermarket.

- Forgot to mention though, go easy on these, no more than about 4 a day - Rio turned into a bit of a chunky monkey when we first gave them to him!!

Re: Do your cats know/ respond to commands?

William responds to his names in various forms. If he's in another room and I call him in a high pitched 'Williaaaaaaam' he comes running to wherever I am and looks at me expectantly.

If he's doing something wrong i.e. up on the counters, playing with breakables (which he seems to be able to find no matter what) etc, a low and short 'William!' causes him to stop what he's doing and look up and acknowledge me, but not much else.

If he's getting a bit rough playing and trying to go for the hands a quick 'No!' distracts him long enough for me to get a suitable toy out.

Unsurprisingly the sound he most responds to is anything that comes from the kitchen. He instantly thinks it's his food time, even if it's actually our food time!

I wish I could train him like some of you guys have, but he's very persistent and if he wants to do something he appears to develop selective deafness

haha! I started to vut up the treats extremly small, the kittens stayed with me for a extra month as the people were away, so I had more time with them to do things lol! Anyway! I cut them up very small put it near the mouth and just said 'gently' they had to actually fidn the treat and started to take it very gently (after a good few trys!!!)

I found that the bigger the treat the more they jumped / bit, literally the little girl nearly took my pinky off! I showed the new owners how to do it as they had children and I didnt want them being scratched, and the kids tried and they took it gently! was very proud!

Your right bengals dont really like 'treats' they much prefer 'meat'! so chicken/beef/turkey etc cut very small, They had tried the webbox/meaty sticks, a couple of them will eat them But most dont, they just love their meat!

*****

Oh all mine know 'out!!!!' means 'out of this room!!!'

Re: Do your cats know/ respond to commands?

Hehe - my cats don't know ANY commands. Or they might do...but they're ignoring them. They mostly try to make *me* do stuff ...like make me feed them or stroke them or sit on me if I am the warmest seat in the room...
