Meowing

Sorry, me again posting about my cat
My cat Pebbles meows a lot, and I thought it might be because he wants something but he seems to meow for no reason at all. He just walks round the house meowing, and I just don't know why. I'm worried that he wants something but he does it just after he's eaten, had a drink and everything else a cat needs. He has a cat flap so it's not as if he's meowing to get out. He'll also sit in the middle of the night and meow, although sometimes he stops if I move him into my room, but most of the time he just carries on meowing. I just don't know why he does it, because normally it's completley random and for no reason at all. Is he just a really noisy cat or does he need something?
He's a 2 year old neutered male.

Re: Meowing

Jim, my feline flatmate a few years ago, used to meow a lot, for no reason, just to be noticed. He would also go mad if we were talking on the phone, like if he believed we were actually talking to him! Sometimes we had to lock ourselves in the bathroom to talk on the phone and he would be scratching the door to get in!! His 'mamma' was a very talkative Italian girl, the kind of person that would call home just to ask you to put Jim on the phone. Do you talk to Pebbles? Maybe he wants just a bit of attention. Try whispering to him, this used to work with Jim. He would get very curious about 'why I can't hear you well' and pay a huge amount of attention.

Re: Meowing

I talk to him a bit (I sound like a mad cat girl now : ) normally it's just to say hello or good boy or something. I thought it could be for attention but if I give him attention and play with him for a bit he just keeps meowing.

Re: Meowing

You don't sound a mad cat girl at all!
You should hear me talking to my Ari! I think that's why she meows so little. I do the talking to both of us! Anyway, the cats don't understand each word you say but they are very smart on understanding your whole body language when you do so. Talk to Pebbles and soon you will identify his different tones for each thing he wants to tell you.

Re: Meowing

Does he have a litter tray inside the house? It's only a guess, but with all the cold weather, perhaps he's trying to tell you that, really, he'd much prefer to take a dump where it's nice and warm, rather than where his backside might freeze over before there's any action...

The same case here Dimby- neutered, almost 2 years old. After the castration he just goes crazy sometimes and starts meowing- he has water, food, toilet, we play with him. But he's just walking arround the house meowing. Lies on the floor, starts licking himself and you think "Thank God, he stopped" but theen... a short pause and... "MEEEEOW?" and again "MEEEOW?". 3 a.m.- "MEEEOW?". 5 a.m. "MEEEOW?". We try to play with him a lot during the day to sleep at night, but he just... when he feels that we're asleep he immediately starts meowing

Re: Meowing

You seem to have a talker!!!

Spartacus is also a talker, and will have conversations with us. Usually when the tv comes on, but shell also sit in her wicker basket on the kitchen windowsill (you know the type you get for hampers) and while I'm cooking will natter away.

Hercules is more of a chirruper and will chirrup when eating, going to the loo, playing, kneading, bathing... Well you get the idea.
