Re: Picking up?
If your kitten is ok with that, then I don't see it being a problem.
I love to hold and pick up my cats, but to be honest they aren't that keen on it, they will tolerate it for a while then want to get down. I would also say with young kittens, they don't like being picked up too much as they are constantly on the go and want to explore. So they often try to struggle and get down. But ya never know, your kitten may different and enjoy being picked up. |

Re: Picking up?
Don't hold onto a cat that doesn't want to be held, but when they are young the more human contact (cuddles/playing/stroking) etc the more people friendly they will be as they grow up.
As Kay said, young kittens are often very playful so may not want to be held too much, but if you wear them out playing with them, then you may be able to get them to sleep on you when they zonk out. ![]() |

Re: Picking up?
I agree, the more handling you do the better although I do agree with Kay and Helz I wouldn't force them and if they want to get down do let them. I think it does depend on the individual cat, some like cuddles, some don't.

Re: Picking up?
I agree. More handling you do the more your scent and the cat's gets transferred to each other.
BUT ...... every cat has a different tolerance as to how much it wants to be cuddled and petted. Some are quite content to lie beside you, others want to be in your face quite literally ![]() Think of it in human terms - some are very sociable and others have a tolerance level..... My 3 year old adoptee who I have had for 3 months now has suddenly started to rub up against my legs - a lot! She is wanting to mingle scents and to accept me as a companion. |

Re: Picking up?
But if Lotti has a very young kitten there, get it used to being handled from the start, I would reiterate, good to start them getting used to the way you want things at a young age Lottie!

Re: Picking up?
I've been handling Eva's litter since day dot and they're 3 weeks now and when i walk in the room they try and wander to me lol xx
also all my other cats have been held like babies since i first got them and even my 7 year old neuter male still loves it (for short periods of time anyway lol) Shows there's alot of trust too i suppose xx so yes handling, cuddling and the likes all helps alot xx |

Re: Picking up?
Its the same with bathing, if you have long or semi longhairs you need to get them used to bathing at a very early age. If you leave it until later years the cat is aggressive towards it and much harder to bath and blow dry. I have found this so often in Persians that I have brought in.
So just picking up and handling is easy peasy sorted. ![]() |
