Moving house

Hi everyone- I move house on friday, from a small 1 bedroomed falt to a lovely house with gardens and everything. I can't wait to move as it means Alfie and Evie will have a better quality of life with more room to run around.

Only thing is, Evie's come from another home already and so I don't want to stress her out, and even though Alfie is a chilled out cat I don't want to unnerve him either.

Whats the best way to introduce them to their new home?

They've never been outside and won't be going out until they've been spayed/neutered, so thats not a problem- and I have a feliway already which I'll use.

Any tips?

Thanks!

Re: Moving house

Hi hun
I have moved house numerous times with my cat and I find the best way is to open their cat box and let them explore when they are ready.
Make sure you show them where their litter trays and food are first though.
And then follow them around for a while and reassure them by giving them strokes so that they are not afraid.
Then i guess just leave them to explore on their own.

I wouldnt advise letting them roam around while there is still lots of moving and banging going on with moving all your stuff into the new house as this will definately unnerve them.

I left ours at our old house until everything was moved into the new house before I brought them over and let them look around.
Because banging in the old house isnt too bad as they are used to the house

Re: Moving house

When i moved i put patti in the bathroom until everything was in place etc by this time she was screaming to come out and she was sat in the sun in the garden within a hour of moving in, but then she was a bit odd lol x

Re: Moving house

When I've moved house with cats, for the very first trip of moving stuff - or the very first thing I do - is select one room and put all their fave toys, litter tray, food and water bowls and some blankets in there and keep them in until everything is moved in.

Then I've just let the door open and let them wander about themselves, let them scope out the new surroundings in their own time.

I've found that although they might be a little timid at first, usually all the packaging and tape and boxes is too much to resist and they are "helping" unpack in no time

Good luck with it - actually moving is rubbish. Hope it goes well and nothing gets broken

K

Re: Moving house

We moved a few times with the cats too.
we choose a room where we put their toilet in, a bowl of water ... Opened their cage and let themesplore this room and so they know where their toilet is at the beginning. Then we just let them go in all the other rooms and after a day they were fine.
I'm happy for u that u are moving to a nice house
