Cat Flap Hell

Okay so about a month ago we installed a cat flap, just you bog standard run of the mill 4 way lock type flap, held shut by a magnet.

Okay, so cat flap installed in the side wall of the porch, the front door of our house is actually on the side, so one wall of the porch goes into the back garder, this is the wall the cat flap is on.

We started off with the flap lifted so they can see there is a hole there. No problem there, they still try and come in the front door with us, but if we wont let them in, they take the hint and use the flap.
So a week passes and we try putting the flap down, we shut them in the porch, its not that small but they are going to want to get out. Eventually one of the boys fights with it long enough and gets out, the next boy is close to follow. Brilliant we think, we have cracked it... oh too cocky, no-one will come back in the cat flap. So we lift it again, we shove them through it head first everything and anything we can think of, no success, they will leave through the closed cat flap but they will not come back in.

Its been about a month of these 'games' now and so h2b removes the magnetic strip so the flap pretty much opens in the wind. Roxy was given the all clear by the vets on friday to go back outside, so she has joined in the fun too. Sucess, after copying their sister (on her first attempt) over the course of the weekend they have all lernt to use the flap without the magnetic strip.

The problem is, when I say ALL, i mean ALL, Roxys 9 1/2 week old kitten is coppying them!!!! What!!! The boys have taken a month to work it out (and even then needed their sisters help) but now their little neice has worked it out too!!!

I'm assuming she is too small to be able to push open when the magnet is on, so I am in a catch 22 situation, I put the magnet on and they all get locked in, or I leave the magnet off and have to run to the door everytime I hear the flap go to see if its the little one!!! Argh!!!
