My puss, Edmond, is about 8 years old. I adopted him three years ago from a shelter and they thought he was about 5yo then. He's a big, gentle, longer-haired ginger moggie.

As he's aging he's wanting to hang close to home a lot more, which I don't mind at all. However, if I'm home with him he bugs me almost all day for food. He gets his kibble in the morning and some wet food at night. I know he's getting plenty to eat - his size is far from lacking. Plus, his diet is as directed on the packaging - he's on Royal Canin.

Can I get him off my back at all?

I think she means how do I stop him from pestering me SK. (although if someone is bending over, my cats have been know to jump on their back )

Are you sure its food he is pestering for and not attention? I often mistakenly feed my boys when all they really wanted was a cuddle.

Are you sure that it is food that he is pestering for?

my cat Toby seems to ask for food all the time too but I reckon some of the time he's just having a chat! - I just give him some fuss and he generally (not all the time) chills out

Sorry, by 'get him off my back' I mean for him to stop nagging me. I didn't realise but it must be an Aussie saying...

I'm pretty sure he's asking for food, but he may not be. I assume he's pestering for food becuause everytime I leave walk near his food bowl he jumps up to it and meows to me. Especially if I've left the kitchen, he seems to think he's getting something.

He has a playmate. Cadbury is about three years old and they play together sometimes. They have a few toys scattered around and they get changed over every couple of weeks, like we do for the dogs. Cadbury is much more playful than him though. He seems more than happy to sleep and eat the day away.

... I think Edmond (Eddy for short) is a cute name too. My son named him after his best friend at pre-school.

With Toby, if I really think he wants some more "Tucker" (australian??) I just give him one or two biscuits (Go cat or similar) and he seems quite happy! If you have dogs I assume you can't leave bikkies down for him? We can't I know, our dog is double the size since we had cats!!
