Smile Our mau/coon.

Hi,

I'm new here and thought I'd share a couple of pics of our one year old cat called Nyx. She is an eygptian mau x maine coon [the result of a neuter that was a week too late!]. She has the look of the mau....but is the weight of the maine coon [and as she has insisted on making the right side of my chest her cushion.....i know about the weight]

[Long story!] There was a posting on another forum that i am a member of. They were looking for a kitten, but couldn't get one down where they lived. Another member then came on and said she had a litter of kittens that her pedigree mau had had. Although both parents were pedigree, the 'dad' was her 11 month old maine coon [who was huge!]. He had been neutered, but they noted that their mau was 'gaining' weight. When the kittens were born, they worked back the dates.....and there was a week 'overlap'...doh!

We had lost our 18 and a half year old rescue cat the year before and had initially said that due to Cali [our dog] being nearly 11 at that point, we weren't going to get another cat. Err that was until I saw the pics of the mum and kittens. I watched the topic for a couple of weeks.....then temptation got too much. I checked to see if there were any of the kittens left and there was one little girl....so that was it.

2 weeks later, my daughter and I went down and picked Nyx [daughters choice of name] up and life has not been the same since her arrival. We were warned to give her a couple of days to settle and come out of her shell...aye right! My hubby commented after the first day...'If that cat has any more shell to come out of we are in huge trouble' And yes she is!...trouble

Our poor Cali has become the biggest, fluffiest, interactive toy ever as far as Nyx is concerned...well why else would we have a dog with a massive fluffly tail, if it's not for the cat to play with and hang off of?!? She's also perfect for target practice [which was ok when she was just a pair of lugs with a kitten attached!...our friends description of Nyx when she first arrived] but now when she launches herself from the furniture at the dog, the dog knows just to drop her head and the speed and the weight of Nyx, means that now she just carried on travelling.

Both the dog and cat go for a walk together, as Cali is elderly and I have ME, we plod along and keep each other company....the cat initially runs off with my teen in tow...then is quite happy to wander along smelling things as we go.

Nyx is as mad as a box of frogs.....and we wouldn't be without her...though poor Cali 's idea of a quiet retirement has gone out of the window

[See told you it was a long story!]
