Some dry foods have additives or extracts to avoid urinary tract issues, a good example is James Wellbeloved. It's a complete food, so you dont have to worry about wet food as a supplement.

Mine are currently eating Science Plan biscuits, with Science Plan wet as a supplement. Solely because if I were a cat, I think i'd get pretty fed-up of eating the same skanky old biscuits day after day. But I do plan to go all dry, and it'll probably be to James Wellbeloved.

Hope this helps
Just thought i'd give an update..... i today bought james welll beloved dry and a small box of the go cat she already loves. I also bought the food dispensers from PAH for food and water. The water 'dispenser' holds about 3 pints of water at least at a glance, so that solves any dehydration issues.

I have mixed the well beloved food with the go cat into the food 'dispenser' and she is wolfing it down like theres no tomorrow. I may give her a bowl of wet once a week or so to see if she will like it as a treat, although i doubt she will hardly touch it, she has never been keen on wet.

Just one thing annoying me now is there were stickers on the bowls of the dispensers and they were coming off, there is now glue residue on the inside of the bowl which is impossible to get off Please tell me this 'glue' is safe for animals

Glad to hear you are getting the diet sorted out.

Regarding the glue, cellulose thinners will probably get rid of the glue residue, and evaporates quickly leaving no trace.

Test the thinners on a small part of the bowl, and if it doesn't damage the plastic put a very small amount on a tissue and rub the glue off.

Then just wash the bowls with warm soapy water to be sure, and rinse well.

Re: Is Wet Food Essential?

I have 2 cats - one of which is a 10 week old kitten and i am having exactly the same problem.

My big boy lives for his wet food and grazes the rest of the day on the dried but the wee man has turned his nose up at all the wet food i have tried even though the cat shelter said he ate it with them!

I can only go on my previous experience with a cat who would only eat dried food - he never had any urine infections in his life and he always seemed to get everything he needed. So i am trying not to get hung up on wet or dried as long as the wee man is eating well and drinking.

Re: Is Wet Food Essential?

Gave my new kitten a tin of the applaws last night, he has never had wet food before was having a bowl of dry and a bowl of kitten biscuits soaked it water, he wolfed down the applaws purring in between mouthfuls!

It is slightly more expensive than other wet foods but you can see the quality 80% plus meat content.
