swollen ear

one of my cats developed a cauliflower ear years ago, and today he has come home with it all swollen again and crusty. i have just cleaned it for the second time and each time smelly pus and watery blood has come out. he has been really brave to put up with it and now has good old sudocreme on it as a short term measure till he can get to the vets on monday, it looks like he has been bit by something. good job im not squeamish about pus ,lol

Re: swollen ear

update on the ear, took jake to the vets today, explained that there is two puncture wounds on the ear, they ignored me and said he must have had a good bashing on the ear, and one eye was weeping so that must have got a good bashing too??? any way, he needs a general anaethstic , blah blah, £312!!!!!! no way says me. ok general sedation £179. ok says me. leave him there. get a phone call saying its done but the problem is scar tissue ( the ear was already cauliflowered due to a haemotoma some while ago ), so they need to put him under general to remove it £450!!! no says i. ok the other alternative is to take the top of the ear off £450!!! which part of i cant afford £312 makes you think i can afford the £450?? ok they say but in a couple of months he will prob need the top of the ear off, and the earlier estimate of £179 has come in lower, £110. the sedation only took 7 mins instead of the estimated 10 !!!!!!!! now i love my pets but the vets are having a laugh, no wonder people abandon them.
