They told me that their products are made in the UK using 100% British Chicken which are passed fit for human consumption by British vets. They told me that they had one complaint aprox 3 years ago made to Trading Standards who investigated it fully and found that the company met all legislation in full and according to them the case was officially closed. Being the trusting soul I am I decided to check myself? Trading Standards are required to publish all convictions they make. I contacted them and found true enough there had never been any convection of any type against the company or any Applaws product. Just to double check I called them direct and they told me that there had been a single complaint almost 3 years ago and that the case was “officially closed”. The company also told me that the factory has made over 70 million 2kg packs, a total weight that is the aprox weight of two cruise ships and during this time no other such complaints have been made to TS. They said that they use British ingredients of the highest standard and that their chicken comes from British Chicken which is approved for human consumption by British vets and they do not use any cereals at all which in the US had been the source of melamine. They told me that not only do they produce their food in the UK but they source their ingredients in the UK giving jobs and security to hundreds of families across the country. Unfortunately it seems that some people like to spread untrue scare mongering stories rather than spread the truth which for some is far less interesting. Don’t get me wrong some cats may have a problem with their food but you will always get some cats that will have a problem with any food.
To be fair, if you call a company with regards to their product having caused harm to animals. They're hardly going to say 'Why yes, our product has caused many problems, but that's all sorted now, feed your cats happily' Are they? No, they're going to minimise any problem that may be associated with them as a company.

Not that I'm slating applaws, I've fed it since, I'm just saying, no company is going to admit to problems with their products.

And I have to agree with Hobbs, after reading this (especially the bit about giving security to UK families- because really, who brings that up??), I'm of the opinion you are associated with applaws somehow.

Re: Warning re applaws dry food

I contacted Applaws about two months ago and in the course of the conversation was told that Applaws dry is manufactured at Golden Acres (where a lot of other well known brands are manufactured...... food for thought ?

Re: Warning re applaws dry food

I couldn't get into the link, so am not sure if this is connected with the concerns over Applaws dry about two years ago, in that it was causing vomiting and diarrhoea (with blood in some cases).

For this reason, personally I would want to avoid it, but for those who choose to feed it, just be aware of any small change in diet/toileting.

But you might get any of the above mentioned symptoms when introducing any new food. Not all foods agree with all cats and not all people pay attention to introducing new food slowly (depending on the cat). So, personally, I don't see how they can be an indicator of the quality of a cat food in general.

Re: Warning re applaws dry food

I did not just speak to the company I checked the story with Trading Standards and asked them if their had ever been any upheld complaint against Applaws. They told me that there had been none. I suggest that if any one who wants to know the truth does the same. I think that I am pretty fair and if there was any proof than I would share it. I have gone to great lengths to find out how this food is made because I do not trust what people tell me and I want evidence. The food is made in a factory which has been awarded the British Retail Consortium – Grade A. This is the highest independent award you can have for food safety and Applaws have this for producing pet food. I have been feeding my boys for three years on Applaws and they are thriving and yes I do support Applaws because as far as I see they are trying to do every thing right.

Re: Warning re applaws dry food

Hi Rosie nice to see you back again and nice dodge of the question Hobbs asked you on the previous page, which is do you work for Applaws ? as you only ever answer topics about it, why not stick around and participate in other threads not about Applaws

Re: Warning re applaws dry food

In my prior contribution to this thead I mentioned that in conversation with Applaws I was told their dry food is made at Golden Acres who manufactuere food for a lot of " name " companies. On further internet browsing it does appear that this company is rated by the British Retail Consortium. I just wondered if ever there was any doubt over the quality of a particular brand of pet food would the onus not lie at the door of Green Acres if they actually made the food ?.......They seem to have a " state of the art " factory and perhaps some of you may find this link to them interesting ( this particular page referring to how they have a machine that can now extrude a kibble with more meat content )....No vested interest...just doing my Sherlock Holmes on the w.w.w.
