Re: Warning re applaws dry food

I think, though, that there is also a wider issue. Whether or not Applaws is actually likely to kill cats (and my feeling is that this probably isn't the case), there do seem to have been quality control issues that worry me. Why do they charge for a premium product if it is not actually top quality?

Also, I go back to the unanswered question about food animal welfare. Why do they boast about chicken welfare standards on their website but refuse to respond to a simple question I have posed by email about how they actually enforce such standards when their chicken comes from Thailand? It's a straightforward question and the fact that they choose not to reply speaks volumes about their likely ethical standards. A company with high standards would be proud to explain in more detail.

Re: Warning re applaws dry food

I was thinking of changing both my dog and cat over to a mixture of wet and dry food from applaws as it was recommended to me and I was very impressed with their website, the ingredients and protein levels in the foods but am now very worried about it! Do many people still feed it happily? Has it caused any other serious problems other than with that particular breeder? how would I find out if the food still contains these toxins that should be there?

Re: Warning re applaws dry food

The wet food is fine.

I have fed my cats the Applaws dry previously (some ate it with gusto and others didn't seem keen) and not experienced any problems. I am feeding them Royal canin dry now but only because they all like it.

It has only been the dry that has been reported. however, as lulu's owner said, there is now growing concern that this is not as 'premium' a product (the wet included) as they make it out to be!!!

personally i have been very disappointed in the response (or lack of it) to questions when asked of the company and the 'statement' they finally made on here (see previous page of this thread). so i would not trust that it is a reputable product or company any longer.

orijen is a fantastic alternative grain-free dry food and you can find many other wet foods with equivalent or better ingredients on the market too - personally i dont think it is worth the risk to use it when they are other choices.

yes i agree - even if it turned out that there was nothing officially wrong, their response has been rubbish and i am was far from impressed to find their chicken came from thailand after they boast about their ethics!!

like you said, whats the point in paying premium if you are not actually getting premium.

i have had my lot on raw for the last couple of months now and must say after reading all this i am so glad i took them off commercial stuff - at least now i know what i am feeding them

A good enough reason not to buy in my book, especially as any diminishment in quality is not visible to the owner, its the poor cats that are at the sharp end and suffer because of that.
