Raw Feeders - What do you do when you go away?

When I was feeding my kittens on canned food I just left an automatic feeder out if I was away for the night.

However, I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to leave raw meat in an automatic feeder, especially if I were to be away for longer than 1 night?

So I just wanted to see what other raw feeders did? I don't really have the option of someone coming around to feed them.

Also, what about Catterys for longer holidays? I haven't used one yet but am wondering if they would be prepared to feed raw or if they'd insist on feeding canned...

Re: Raw Feeders - What do you do when you go away?

The easiest way to prepare raw, because it is time consuming, is to make a batch and freeze it in appropriately sized portions if you can. I am sure any cattery would have access to a freezer or fridge for short stay and could accomodate defrosting and serving that up. Most state they are able to cope with individual special diets.

That doesn't help with going away over night though. Do you not have anyone that could pop in and take a meal out of the fridge and serve it up. You might find a vet nurse from your local vets who will do that for a small fee. Better to have someone looking in on them and making sure everything is OK anyway especially if they were to be left alone for more than 24 hrs.

I'd love to use pet sitters but my OH refuses to allow "strangers in our house".

I have one person who could pop in but only once a day max. Its purely theoretical at the moment anyway as I won't be going anywhere for a while!
