Minced Meat/Fish Bone Questions...

I recall somebody saying on my other thread that minced meat is too high in fat for cats. So I wanted to check whether feeding extra lean minced lamb or beef was ok?

I also wanted to check about feeding fish bones?

For now my kittens have only had canned Tuna which they liked but I know is too salty. They have also had tinned Mackerel or Sardines in sunflower oil (drained and blotted off as much as possible) . I have yet to try them on whole fish or anything with bones in as I'm afraid they may choke or pierce something internally ...

They also had a Salmon steak the other night but they didn't seem that keen on it. They definitely didn't like eating the scaly part.

Re: Minced Meat/Fish Bone Questions...

It depends on where you source your minced meat from, if it is supermarket or human mince from the butcher then it will be ok. If it is pet mince from a butcher it can be too high / low in all things not just fat. I wouldn't buy lean mince for the cats as cats convert fat in to enegry a lot faster and easier than protein or carbs.

I have 14 cats and Ive never had a problem with fish bones, the odd one may gag a little if it gets stuck but the soon cough it up.
