help poorly cat

we have been feeding a predominantly white stray cat for sometime now, one of her ears is in a terrible state it gets a black scab which keeps falling off leaving the ear bleeding, we know its cancer. I have finally won this cats trust i can now pick her up so tomorrow we're taking her to the vets in the hope he can save her, has anyone had any experience of this & what is the likely prognosis? thankyou

Re: help poorly cat

Ahhh, bless. Sadly it's common in white eared cats. We have to put sun cream on ours, lol. Though being a house cat she only goes outside under supervision anyway. Usually the tip of the ear will be removed and that should be the end of it. Obviously unless you can get cream on the cats ears, it could happen to the other one. Hope there's good news from the vet, please let us know

Re: help poorly cat

Unfortunately ( or fortunately) I didnt had this kind of experience, but white cats do get this (white ears, pink nose) quite often. If she will be OK after Vet - its better to keep her indoors - away from direct sun light.

Re: help poorly cat

thankyou both for your advice unfortunatly we cant have her indoors because my dogs would kill her she is a very timid cat but since we started feeding her she has got better but she shoots off when anyone other than me or my family get to close. My next door neighbours are also very sorry for her & are letting us keep her in 1 of our dog cages in their garage whilst she recovers from the op providing it all goes well, so fingers crossed for her because shes had a really hard life shes been roaming around for at least 8yrs with no one to care for her

Re: help poorly cat

I think she will continue to trust you as she probably won't associate the op etc with you ...

Give her plenty of treats etc to keep her sweet

I had to get my stray cat spayed last week and was able to borrow a cat trap from local cat charity to get her to the vet , it might be worth a try doing the same if you can source one.
Basically once the cat gets into the trap , which is a big cage, you throw a blanket over the cage , the cat thinks they're in a cave and it completely calms them . My cat spent a night at the vets and the next 24 hours in our shed in her cage (she's also an outside cat). I checked on her every hour or so and fed her and gave her water and she was fine - I kept the blanket over the cage though , it really does keep the cat calm.
When I let her out of the cage , I had some sardines ready for her and she was delighted !!

Good luck and good on you for taking care of her

aww thankyou we've got so fond of her, i just wish someone would take her in off the streets we've tried everywhere but no one wants a feral cat but shes good natured just frightened

the strange thing is as far as we know shes never had kittens could she be sterile because of her coat colouring? shes white with afew black & brown patches or am i talking rubbish? or is it more likely she was once someones pet & they had her spayed?

thankyou for that i feel more hopeful now

i'm going to have to use a pet carrier to put her in though, we thought it might be easier if we split it in half & then put the top on whilst shes in the bottom half because i know she'll struggle if we try & put her through the door
