Question ?cat temperature - how to tell?

You know when you come in and you feed the cats and all except one rush for the bowls, and you have a passing thought "whats up with you".... well the cat still hasn't eaten but has just jumped on my lap for a cuddle - as always when at the pc.... but her under belly is hot, and her armpits --- this could be beacuse she was sitting on teh radiators, but apart from putting a thermometer which i have got up her botty, how can I tell.

Sometimes you can tell by feeling their ears. Also, if they're under the weather you could tell by looking at their gums, they should be a healthy pink, if white then somehting's up.

Re: ?cat temperature - how to tell?

I'd second what HoneyFern said, I can usually tell by feeling the cats ears as they should be sort of cold-ish (depending where they have been) if they are warm to the touch then that's usually a sign that they have a tempreature.

Just try and monitor the water intake aswell if you can and see whether the cats passing motion in the tray (if he is an outside cat I know it's difficult to do so.)

Hope that helped, if you are still worried and she's not 'better' in a couple of days and still off her food check with the vet.

Edit: Actually, is her tummy 'hard' at all near where the genitals would be? Sometimes cystitus can affect them like this I believe

Re: ?cat temperature - how to tell?

I test temperature in animals by feeling their nose!

I can tell when Enzo isn't feeling too good when his nose is pale (instead of a healthy pink!) and he has a warm nose.

Gah! I can't believe I forgot that! Yep, Bandit's nose is usually pink but if he's under the weather it's white too.
