Heat and getting spayed

Hi all

I "think" one of my kittens is in heat (super affectionate, constant meowing, sticking bum in air etc), was going to book them in for spaying in the next month anyway (wasn't certain of birth date so wanted to make sure they were old enough), can I book them in whilst she is in potential heat and how long does it normally last as prob wont be for a couple of weeks (they don't go out yet so no chance of babies), because the other one might go into heat in the meantime, or do I need to wait until they have both had a heat before I book them in? (hope not as they are desperate to get out and explore and the cat flap is now installed).

thanks

Lou

Re: Heat and getting spayed

Hi,

No you cannot book her in whilst she is calling. It can last from 3-10 days, sometimes longer. Be careful she doesn't go looking for a male and use the cat flap.

I would speak with your vet and about your other cat as you have't said how old she is. I think some Vets do it by how heavy the cat is now. I would give your vet a ring.

Re: Heat and getting spayed

Our vet goes on weight not age - had to be 2kgs before they could be done... so mine were done at 4 1/2 months...

I'd get them both booked in for two weeks time and pray your other one doesnt come into season before then! Hope the howling isnt too horrid!

Zoe

Re: Heat and getting spayed

Thanks for all your replies, don't worry cat flap is locked, I will NOT be letting either of them have kittens!!

I spoke to the vet and have booked them in for 18th March, think I might weigh them tonight, although that could be tricky as they don't like sitting still!! They are both the same age so will get it done together, have booked 2 days off work so I'm around as soon as they are ready to come home and then with them all day Fri and most of the weekend.

I guess after recovery the fun really begins when I have to be a brave mummy and let them out without me!
