Itchy/sore neck on cat

my little boy who is 1 year this week has recently been scratching away at his neck causing a bald patch and making it bleed. He does seem to be a bit OCD in his cleaning too. I first saw the sore patch in Dec and we took him to the vet and he had a long lasting injection to take away the itchiness and it cleared up.
Now he has another one and has had a lower dose injection and some tablets but the sores don't seem to be clearing up. He has 2 this time, one either side of his neck where he scratches.
The vet thinks he has possible allergies...has anyone's cat had anything like this??
I feel so sorry for him when he scratches as the sores must be causing him discomfort.

Re: Itchy/sore neck on cat

aRE YOU SURE HE HASNT GOT FLEAS AS THEY CAN CAUSE OVER GROOMING AND SCRACTING WHICH WOULD CAUSE THE BLEEDING. iD RULE THAT OUT FIRST AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE. fAILING THAT COULD BE ALLERGY OR ALLERGIC TO FOOD., COLLAR , DUST MITES A NUMBER OF THINGS . YOUR CAT SOUNDS UNCOMFORTABLE MAY BE BEST TO GET HIM TREATED FOR FLEAS AND GO FROM THERE .

Re: Itchy/sore neck on cat

Thanks.....the vet did look him over for fleas...couldn't see any but he is due a treatment so I will do that.
Other than that he is an indoor cat, no collar. He is very hyper compared to his sister too so I wondered if he was a bit stressed out too but I'm not sure why..
Vet did suggest food allergies too but they only have chicken based food (P@H - complete) and have been on that since they were about 6 months old when I took them off Whiskas.

Ah, didn't know there was a connection there. I'm in the process of changing them from kitten to adult food so trying diff brands. Hopefully it is just a food allergy as I don't want to put him thru any test therapy.
Thanks for the advice, much appreciated!

ONLY A THOUGHT OF COURSE ONLY YOUR VET WOULD KNOW THE CORRECT CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT MAY EVEN BE WITH ELIMINATING OTHER THINGS FIRST.ITS ONLY WHAT I WOULD SUGGEST. I HAVE JUST SWAPPED MINE OVER FROM KITTEN TO ADULT ALSO. HE SEEMS TO DO WELL ON TESCO PREMIEM CAT FOOD IN THE POUCHES ITS A BIT DEARER THAN SOME. BUT HAS A HIGHER CONTENT OF MEAT THAN SOME. SOME HAVE AS LITTLE AS 4% MEAT CONTENT WHISKERS BEING ONE OF THEM.

Re: Itchy/sore neck on cat

yes, didn't realise whiskas was so low when I first brought it!
I'm going for hi-life as I'm nearer to Sainsburys and then will see from there. He is due back at the vets once the tablets run out but I was just concerned as it doesn't seem to be getting any better, but then they are a low dose.
Vet did say could be a number of things fleas, house mites, food etc...so understand it may be case of testing for allergies. Just hope we can find out the reason quickly!
