Worrying morning

Morning all,

Really worried this morning. Little Chloe who is 7/8 months old normally cant wait for breakfast and knocks at our bedroom door. Today she wasnt there and when I went to feed them she didnt come downstairs, totally not interested.

It is very out of character, I have left her with my girlfriend at the moment. She feels quite hot aswell. My 2 cats have just been outside for the first time over the past few days. Could she have eaten something bad in the garden? She has not been sick though. Should we take her straight to the vet do you think?

Thanks for any help

Re: Worrying morning

continue monitoring chole's condition but if she continues to be lethargic i think that's the time that you bring chole to a vet.

Same here, you know your cat, if she's unwell, better to get her checked out.
Do you mean out wandering or are they house cats with supervised access to your garden ?

Re: Worrying morning

Thanks guys. Yes they've had all the injections. We rang the vets and they sounded concerned that her condition was so sudden, she was fine last night, so I have already taken her in.

The vet has said her temp. is high but the most worrying thing is her breathe is a bit smelly which apparently is a sign that something could be wrong with her kidneys. If she has eaten something a bit toxic in the garden the kidneys would be the first place it would strike. So she is staying in for the day and they are doing a blood test to see if her kidneys are ok. Fingers crossed!!!!!!
She might just have bad breathe.

They should have the results this afternoon. Now I'm worried to death but it made more sense foe her to stay there rather than taking her back again later to be treated.

Well she definitely wasnt herself! Quite poorly really. We were watching over them, they have only started going out on saturday for a little bit at a time. But it is possible shes had a chew on something she shouldnt. Wish I was watching closer now

Re: Worrying morning

Wishing you and your little one well Reevo - mustn't hang about for too long when you see her condition change like this - you did the right thing. Hope the vets can sort it as they got her reasonably quickly.

Lets hope you can post us some good news later today.

Re: Worrying morning

Do you have lillies in your garden?
They are highly toxic to cats, but saying that, they are soooo toxic she would have gone down hill last night, not this morning. But there could be other plants that have upset her system.
If this is the case, hopefully the vet will be able to 'wash' anything out. Good call on taking her to the vet. Sometimes wait and see is not a risk worth taking.

But as a note to everyone, Lillies are highly toxic to cats and the smallest amount will cause the cat to go into renal failure within hours. They don't have to eat the plant, if they just brush past it and get pollen on them, they can later injest the pollen by cleaning themselves.

Hi Helz, thanks for that. I don't THINK we have got lillies in the garden. The vet also said about how nasty they can be. My girlfriends father is our real gardener so I will check with him.

I am glad we got her there this morning now. It is just so out of character for her. Will the blood test show up anything else that might be wrong with her or do the vets only look for one certain thing at a time, in this instance kidney damage.

I pray she is ok
